I’ve been lucky enough to see quite a few planets through a telescope. My favourites are the big gas giants, Uranus, Jupiter and Saturn. Through even quite a small telescope in a big city (where light pollution might stop you from seeing lots of cool astronomical things), you can still see the structure of these planets. It’s pretty easy to see the rings around Saturn and Jupiter’s so called Big Red Spot (which is actually a giant storm in its atmosphere) with a telescope that is only a few inches (maybe even with binoculars if you have a very steady hand). With bigger telescopes, that only professional astronomers are lucky enough to use, I’ve also been able to see Venus and Neptune.
