When I was really small, like 5 years old, I used to go watch the shooting stars in August with my mom and dad. I really liked looking at the stars at night. I liked lying on the ground face up, closing my eyes for a while, and then opening them to see only stars in front of me. That made me feel like I was on a gigantic space ship. At that point, I thought I wanted to be an astronomer.

Around that time, when people used to ask me ‘what do you want to be when you grow up?’ I used to say ‘astronomer’, and they used to answer ‘ha! you want to be an astronaut!!’ and that frustrated me, because I wanted to LOOK at the stars, NOT go in space!!

I started primary school at six, and from that point I wanted to become a writer. It’s not until I was about 16 that I knew I wanted to be a physicist!

Haha, I went through a number of things! Astronaut was there, singer, actor, chef, police person, paleantologist.

The more sciency ones came out later in my young life, i suppose that was a give-away that I’d go into something sciency.
