In the history of life on Earth, the first type of organism that appeared had a very simple form of cell called procaryote. I’d a very simple cell with a simple membrane at no nucleus at the centre, so the DNA is free to move anywhere in the cell. One such cell (which still exists today) is called cyanobacteria (often it’s called ‘blue algae’, but really it’s not an algae). Those cyanobacteria are the first organism capable of photosynthesis.

The way scientists believe plants appeared is that once more complicated cell types had evolved (more than a million years later), one of those more complex cell swallowed a cyanobacteria and then turned it into a solar power plant (pretty cool, no?).
