• Question: why was space called space?

      if there is a place where there is a LOT of space, it’s definitely space!! So it makes a lot of sense!
      The word space itself comes form latin spatium, which itself apparently comes from proto-indo-european ‘spÄ“’, which meant ‘to pull’ or ‘to stretch’. This makes a LOT of sense given that space is expanding (although I don’t think they knew at the time 😉 )!!

      it is simply a definition of what we see, much in the same way the grass is defined as the green blades that stick out of the ground.

      As Laurance said, it’s from the Latin “spatium”, and has a lot of different definitions
